Sandra Taylor

Founding Strategic Advisor

Formerly the Director of Finance & Business Operations at the prestigious University of California at San Diego's Jacobs School of Engineering, Ms. Taylor controlled and monitored spending patterns and managed the budget/financial analysis of 5 academic departments, 3 cost revenue centers, 3 institutes, 4 research centers, 2 recharge centers, graduate and undergraduate programs, administration, and engineering computing. During the course of carrying out these duties, she:

  • Developed short-term and long-term financial models.
  • Managed a $27M operating budget and a $50M foundation budget.
  • Performed long-term planning of and managed centralized state, federal, and industrial funds.
  • Directed 7 staff members in purchasing, inventory control, facilities management, and control of all federal grants and business operations.
  • Conducted performance evaluations and provided training to all staff.
  • Analyzed and interpreted the campus and university policy on fiscal and human resource matters.
  • Created guidelines, procedures, and indices for analysis of resource allocations.
  • Ensured department awareness and compliance.
  • Screened applicants, interviewed candidates, and made hiring decisions.
  • Acted as the Principal Advisor to the Assistant Dean regarding financial planning.
  • Supervised the Dean's business office, special projects, and data and planning groups.
  • Functioned as liaison between the Dean and the Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs and the Vice Chancellor of Business Affairs.
  • Served as a member of Dean's Senior Management Team.

Sandra is a results-focused leader and dynamic team player with a track record of achievement across process improvement, organizational management, personnel administration, financial/cost benefit analysis, budgetary planning, project management, human performance technology, fund raising and grant proposals. She is equally adept at interpreting complex legal documents and works well with all levels of personnel. In addition, she is technically proficient.

Sandra graduated from the University of San Francisco with an MBA in Human Resources & Organizational Development, and she has a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of California San Diego. She is also affiliated with the American Association of Planners, Association of College & University Telecommunications Administrators, Career Connections Mentor Program, Community Advocates for Disabled Rights & Education, Marketing Association of America and Native American Staff & Student Association.

Sandra currently is retired from UCSD and lives with her sons in San Diego.
